Hawaii - Day 5

Yesterday we flew into Kauai to spend the final days of our vacation. Our plan was to run around in Oahu doing all we could there and then relax in Kauai. That is exactly what we have planned. This is the view from our hotel room. Just to the left of this picture is the ocean.

Today we decided to take a drive to Waimea Canyon which we have heard was the "Thing to see" on Kauai. This was truly amazing. The drive starts on the shoreline of the beach and rises above 4,000 feet in about 11 miles. Each viewpoint got better and better until we reached the end of the road and saw this... We rented a convertible while we are here and it completely added to the experience to drive up the winding road with the top down. By the time we reached the top, we were driving through pine trees. This is the most beautiful place I have ever visited. These pictures dont even come close to doing it justice. It was so green and beautiful. The ocean below was so blue and clear.

On our way down the road we saw the Kauai Coffee Plantation and decided to stop. It was pretty amazing to see how coffee was produced. So many steps to it and very scientific ways to pick the berry, extract the bean, roast it and so on and so on..

Then it was back to the beach to rest and relax.

your drive sounds like an experience i had on maui. we drove up in a van and rode beach bikes down this huge mountain. we started out so high it was cold and then as we went down we went thru pines, then eucaliptes trees and then farm grass and then beach. the smells of each level were so cool and the views were incredible one of the most memorable experiences i've ever had glad your having a safe and fun time
