Hypocrisy of Sen. Patricia Jones, D-Holladay

The Legislature is back in session. That is another post all in itself.
But my favorite story is one from ksl about Senator Patricia Jones. In 2006, Jones sponsored a bill that would have outlawed gifts from lobbyists worth more than $5. Yet, when Billy Joel came to town she accepted tickets from Regence Blue Cross and Blue Shield for the face value of $388.00. Hypocrisy at its finest. Here are some of my favorite quotes from her when asked about it.

"Typically, what I do is reimburse them -- and I will be doing that," she said.
So, lets start with the word "typically". So this takes place often Sen. Jones? And when you say you typically reimburse them, does that mean only when you get caught accepting gifts?

"Name one good reason why elected officials should receive gifts," Jones said during House debate in 2006. "And what public good does giving gifts to elected officials serve? That's the ultimate question."
That is the ultimate question Sen. Jones. What good does this serve? Lets see. You were given a great perk from Regence Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Let me guess what way you might vote on a bill that comes through that might relate to them. And we all sit here wondering why our health insurance is so high.

Not true you say?
"Cynicism is rampant with our constituents and our general public right now and there's a growing apathy toward government," Jones said two years ago. "Much of this can be attributed to the perception that money influences votes."
Well Said.
